Now this is representative of the global market, but one must keep in mind when you’re targeting specific countries that this makeup may look completely different (i.e. Japan, Russia, China, etc.) comScore qSearch has much more data on a country by country basis, if you’re interested in learning more about a specific region. Included in comScore’s stats were some growth numbers from July 2008 to July 2009, shown below.

The most noticeable number here is the 94% growth for Yandex, Russia’s largest search engine. Some have speculated that it’s because of Yandex’s mastery of the Russian language that has allowed them to pull so far ahead. You may also notice in the chart above that AOL appears to be on its way out. If you are currently doing search advertising with them, you may want to consider other options if you haven’t already.

And lastly, they provided individual users searching behaviors for various global regions. In the chat below, you can see “searches per searcher” or the number of searches an individual user performs over a measured period in July 2009. As you can see, Latin America turns to search the most frequent out of other regions. One explanation for this could be a lack of viable results or results that are constantly changing amongst Latin American search results. Obviously, this will vary on a case by case basis, but this could be a great opportunity for sites to optimize their site in the Latin American market or start marketing more often in this market.
