Steve Ballmer of Microsoft announced today their latest entry into the search space, Bing. This is the third iteration from Microsoft starting with MSN search, then Live.com and now Bing. From the Bing website:
A new breed of search engine has arrived, a search engine that does more than point you to a set of links. We’ve built a “decision engine” and it’s called Bing. Internet search has become the No. 1 avenue for finding information and getting things done. But with more than 200 million Web sites online (and counting), most search engines are ill-equipped for the task. Not Bing.
They have some interesting videos incorporating numerous Microsoft products into a singular experience: Microsoft Maps, Farecast for flight data, product comparisons, and more. Some are already saying Microsoft has no shot at competing while others are wondering if this is the next “Google-killer”. Myself, I’m going to withhold judgment until I run a few test queries and see how it performs. Even with Google constantly innovating, I’m still excited to see what some others can throw into the search arena. The official launch is Wednesday, June 3rd. And not to beat a dead horse, but recent ComScore numbers show that Microsoft has a long way to go with this one.
