Often in our industry we are looking for the new, the now, and to forget the past. This is especially the case when it comes to logotypes and identities. We love to throw out old and dated logos in order to create something new and shiny. I found this site the other day which is actually trying the complete opposite and is trying to preserve the past, specifically the World Trade Center as represented in small business logos.
From the project website:
After 9/11, I started to noticed the Twin Towers in many logos containing the New York City skyline. These were mostly from small businesses: dry cleaners, delis, movers, and so on. I experienced a strange mix of sadness and joy seeing the iconic Towers standing there majestically, as if nothing happened.
If you have a few minutes, it’s interesting to see the various representations of the same two buildings.

Jeff, this is pretty cool. It’s amazing how much the NY skyline is used in small business logos -what a collection. I would bet that we’d also be surprised at how much our Chicago skyline is used here in the same way. Thanks for sharing.
