Makes me wonder if we'll all think nothing of it a year or so later if it's implemented.

When Apple rebranded their notebooks Macbooks and their pro desktops Mac Pros, I said it sounded silly. But now it sounds natural.

As a consumer, if it's not broken, dont' fix it.
I think a businesses logo says a lot about their reputation and what they stand for in a whole. I'd like to know why they think they need change it up. Hmm....

There's some more background on their Mall of America store and the tests they're running here:

Here's another link to further discussion. Still looking for a link to get Best Buy's perspective: <a target="_blank" href="http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/best_buys_new_tag.php" rel="nofollow">Best Buy Logo Discussion</a>

Looks to me like they are trying to rebrand themselves into something that they are not. They made a name of themselves as the discount electronics superstore. They've since added appliances, books, music, movies and computers. The "yellow tag" is symbolic of a discounted price tag...the new logo looks like something higher quality. It's akin to Wal-mart rebranding themselves as Target. Interested strategy and not one that I think very wise since most higher-end players in this space have either moved directly to online-only sales or closed show completely...
